What changes along the shore
Salt and wind
Within a short walk of the shore, spray and brackish soil limit what survives. We use bayberry, seaside goldenrod and marsh hibiscus there.
The Critical Area
Land within 1,000 feet of tidal water is Maryland's Critical Area. The county may review planting plans near the shore, and we tell you what applies to your lot.
Banks and bluffs
Plants help hold a bank, but a failing bluff may need an engineer. We say so at the visit.
